I have a final drive ratio of about 7.80 or so, i need a 6.50 but right now, cant afford to buy new gears. besides running taller tires on the rear, is there anything else i can do, to not turn so many rpm's?

have no idea, tach quit working, but it never floated the valves, actually it never even spun the tires much!

I agree with AC156, and I'm also suprized you have not twisted the motor in half with a 9.12 final. To get a 6.50 final you would need to either find a 3.86 rear gear and use your 1.68 trans or find a trans that has a 1.19 ratio and use your 5.43 rear gear. Another combo that will get you close is use your 1.68 trans with a 4.11 rear gear which will put your final at 6.90. Good luck.

we run 1/4 drit, our fanil is 7.66. 4.56 rear, 1.68 6500 rpm's.our motor has 31 races, we're going up to a 4.33. a touch less bottom but quicker to the top with less rpm. get out of the gutter and a little higher line. let the car start to set with less gas entring, tap the brakes to set and hammer out. it will be atouch loose but loose is fast.you will have good speed into the croner, feather the hammer.
