WE HAVE A MOTOR THAT WE PULLED OYT OF A 1996 CHEVY TRUCK TO PUT IN OUR 1980 MALIBU WE DECIDED TO HAVE IT BUILT AND THE GUY TOLD US THAT THE MOTOR COME OUT OF A 'VETTE FOR SURE HE COULDN'T TELL US WHAT YEAR IT HAS 5.7 STAMPED ON THE BLOCK. HE IS BUILDING IT AND HE SAYS WHEN HE IS FINISHED IT WILL BE A 361(OUR LIMIT IS 362) IT IS GOING TO HAVE OVER 450HP AND IT'LL BE READY THIS FRIDAY, MAY 24. ANY IDEA WHAT YEAR IT IS. I'LL LET YOU KNOW HOW IT RUNS THIS WEEKEND

need casting no. off of block on drivers side rear above second trany bolt and no.s off of block on pass side front of block just below head were alternator is and i can look it up in my book e-mail me at rcf5r@yahoo.com maybe i can help

It is eighther an 87 or 89 up motor because thats when they came out putting 5.7 on the blocks. Did it have the center holes for valve covers because thats what should have been on it.

Cajun the late 80's vette's did have engines that would fit that description. The one area that may cause a problem for you is that those vette's (at least all I have seen) came with aluminum heads which may or may not be illegal at your track. If the engine did come with aluminum heads (1.94/1.50, 58cc chamber, D shaped exhaust port) you can replace them with '96 on up vortec cast iron heads if those are allowed and you won't lose any power. You might want to check and see if the hydraulic roller cam that is most likely in that engine is also allowed at your track as well. If rules allow it, you won't be disappointed with that motor.
