Big Bird, your rear gear alone nor your tranny alone will dictate your final RPM's. Not all 3 spd's have the same gear and not all 4 spd's have the same gear, Saginaw for example has 4 different 4 spd's with all of them having different gearing. You need to know the final drive you want, just ask your friends, and then work from there. Your final drive is(rear gear X tranny gear). For example if you are running a 557 rear in third gear (usually 1.00) your final drive will be 5.57 X 1.00= 5.57 .....I personally have a 2.73 rear and 2.20 in 2nd gear for a final drive of 6.00 I dont know if you will get a tranny with the right gear to put you at 6.00, but if I had to error to one side or the other, I would prefer to run less RPM's like you are to preserve my motor. You can even get more RPM's if you go to smaller tires. Check out the tool box here in the forum. It is a gold mine!!! It has helped me unbelieveably... Brandon
