I have an Autometer monster tach with no memory option on it. When I hook it up, it reads like 2200 rpms when the car is at idle, and when you speed the car up to say 2500 rpms, it reads 5 grand. Any ideas what I am doing wrong????? Sure hope I need a whole new tach. This one I bought off a guy out of a pickup. It is like brand new! He only used it for less than a month.

That tach has a setting on it for 4,6, or 8 cylinder engines. It sounds like you have yours set to 4 cyl. instead of 8. That's why it's doubling your RPM's. Change the setting and your tach should work fine.

You are right. I contacted Autometer and the tach has wire loops on the back of it that you cut if you want 6 or 4 cyl. Now, my problem is, how do I reconnect such short wires as the the last guy cut them as short as possible!

get out the soldering iron and heat sinks and solder the two wires together
