i am running a 358 w/991 heads and a 2 barrel.it souns and runs fine to about 5000.everything is new,from the oil pump to the carb.when i get about 3/4 down the straitaway on a 1/4 mile it really misses until i let off.i run a stock dist w/a new accel module.new carb,dist,plugs,wires,mwms#5cam@.030,lifters,pushrods, wont run worth a ****,built many motors but never had his prob, any help would be greatly appreciated. thank you

check your needle valve settings.mine did the same thing and i wasnt getting enough fuel.or maybe wrong jetting.

Just a thought, but are you sure you have enough valve spring pressure?

Also, check your fuel pressure as well, but that's less likely to cause your problem than weak valve springs.

i would have to say its your valve springs what kind are u using if your using z/28 stlye ones from midwerst motorsports they need to be changed after about ten night on them becouse they get weak after that. Also chech your distributor and make sure it isnt bad, i had one go bad this year already so i bought a new one from summit. if they have to much play in them it will not let u rev it up

make sure the wire going in to your hei is big enough ive seen this cause high speed misses also. just look what size they run from the factory.

thanks for all the help guys,i rewired and checked fuel pressure and my dist.everything checked out so i ripped her apart and put new springs and valves in her.well find out tomorrow nite if she'll go or blow! thanks again,randy vasseau #55

valve springs,huge diff.started 18th and moved to 5th and ended op 8th.thanks guys randy vasseau #55
