I just built a 408 with 512 horsepower and I'll be running on a 1/2 mile dirt track. Right now I got a set of 342 in the rear end but I think I'm gear wronged. Plus I have a 350 turbo transmission. What would be a good set of gears to run. Thanks Joe....

Before you do anything you need to find out the gear ratios for your transmission. You may be just fine with those gears. you will probably want a final drive ratio in the mid to high 5's for a half mile. Take your rear gear (3.42) and multiply by your transmission gear ratio, say it's 1.70. your final drive would be 3.42 X 1.70= 5.81...This would be a good starting point. you can use different tire heights to fine tune. You can figure all this out in the tool box, it saves a lot of time and money.

i added it all up and it came out as 5.20 but I was talking to 1 of my sponsors that I use to race with and he told me that he has a set of 323 or something like that will work great with that motor. I run it in 2nd gear and I run a tire size of 255/70/15. Thanks, Joe
