AT MY TRACK WE RUN 350TH IN THE PURE STOCKS
BECAUSE OF THE RULES, AND POWERGLIDES IN THE STREET STOCKS. I AM THINKING ABOUT MOVING UP TO THE STREET STOCKS IN A YEAR AND WAS WONDERING IF I SHOULD RUN MY 350TH OR FIND A POWERGLIDE. (WHICH ONE IS BETTER AND WHY)?

I really aint a transmission man, but I've run both transmission and I LIKE THE 350 turbo. I got a 2 speed powerglide but it seems like after 7 or 8 races it starts to slip. Last season I ran a 35o turbo and it's still in my car and it's never been rebuilt. I'd go with the 350 they seem tougher to me.

Well I have never run a 350th but I do know the Powerglide works good. As far as it starting to slip that is becasue the bands losen up and need to be tightend. If you can find a good tranny guy to get one ready for you it is well worth it. Either that or go to a 3 speed Saginau with a light fly wheel.

Use the 350 turbo if you are not running high gear. Use the Powerglide when using high gear to race.

THANKS FOR THE INFO.
I DID TALK TO SOMEONE THAT
SAID THEY PREFER THE POWERGLUID
BECAUSE IT HAS LESS ROTATING MASS.
IF THIS IS TRUE OR NOT I DONT KNOW.

IM putting the glide back in my car this year ive been running the Saginaw 3 speed from what ive gathered about dirt the automatics are the way to go because they are lighter and that you can still maintain R's in the turns.

EVERY POWER GLIDE WE HAVE EVER HAD HAS BROKE WITHIN 3 WEEKS OF PUTTING IT IN AND WE RUN IT IN HIGH GEAR MY PERSONAL OPINION THEY ARE PEICES OF SH*T

In my opinion, money is the only reason to use a Turbo 350 (but money is always a consideration). Glides are lighter and stronger, any failures you guys are having aren't inherint to the powerglide. I switched a few years ago from a turbo to a glide and I like it a ton more. Its a least 50 pounds lighter.

However, if you're not running a 9", than you almost have to use a TH350 because you'll need the deeper 1st and 2nd gears because a 4.56 (I think) is the highest GM gear you can get. I used to use a 2.73 rear with my TH350 and had to shift from 1st to second. Thats why I switched to a glide and a 9" with a better gear.

I think the right set up is a Powerglide, coupler (no torque converter) with 9" and race in high gear. All that can be expensive (or illegal) so there's no clear cut answer to this question.
