The 727 is one of the easyest to rebuild.Ihear they are pretty tough , but don't race a Dodge. A Dodge just gets my Chevy there to race.

All Transmissions can be updated to be fairly strong including the torqueflite 904 and 727. If you have one that works well, install a Transgo TF-2 Shift Kit. If you plan on running without the passing gear linkage, set it up manual shift using a Transgo TF-3 kit. If your concerned about weight, use a good 904 with a Transgo kit. The 904 weighs 115 pounds which is only 20 more pounds then a glide but the 904 has an advantage in your case because of the lower 1st gear and 3 speeds. I built a 904 Direct Drive 904 for a Dodge 360 E-Mod that raced at Lorain Speedway taking the points championship 2 years in a row with no problems or failures. Good Luck!
