i am purchasing a street stock and it doesnt have a shroud from the radiator to the fan has anyone had any problems overheating without one?

A shroud will definitly make a difference in your tempature. I personally wouldnt run without one. just my 2

I've always run a shroud, helps cool and its a nice safety feature.

I never run a shroud. Just be sure to have your fan about 3/4 inch from the radiator. I have never had any overheating problems. I just like the ease of working on the car without a shroud.

i run a shroud pesonally. think about this if u put that fan 1inch or less to the rad what happens when a crash pushes it back. iv had some bad front damage and not damagedthe rad even though its moved back 2+ inches and was able to continue the race. i dont know about yall but where i race u plan for the worst cause sometimes it a demo derby. later scott

i tried to run without one but tended to run hot so i put a shroud on and kept the temp where i wanted it good luck

I WAS HAVING OVERHEATING PROBLEMS, SO I PUT A SHROUD ON. THAT NIGHT I HAD A SMALL FENDER BENDER THE SHROUD HIT THE FAN, BROKE AND TOOK OFF MY BELTS. THE NEXT WEEK I WENT AND BOUGHT A BRAND NEW RADIATOR AND SAID THE HECK WITH THE SHROUD. HAVENT GOT HOT SINCE.

have raced for 25 yrs basically with out one on 3 different cars the key is water flow and radiator we are using a griffin radiator the widest made 30%reduction and a 4 blade fan that came on 6cyl 292 chevy engine and a gutted thermostat but the key is we use the forced air thru the nose of the car we duct it in front of the radiator with the plastic that everybody uses real tight and neat also go the width of the radiator if u are using the camaro old style noses use the fake lines on the nose and cut just outside those also forced air at the lowest pointon the nose is better than up high on the nose it has a grater pressure point

You also must remember that the lowest point on the nose is also where the most mud is. If you track is heavy, raise the opening up and use a good shaker screen (or two) in front of the radiator.

I have found that a shroud helps cool the motor also A cookie cutter shroud (just a round tube) works as well as a full coverage shroud and is easier to make just line the edge with vacuum hose (split) and tie wrap it thru the radiator
