Author Topic:   Elecrical Ghost in the Distributor

Alright, this is weird. If the engine is not properly grounded, is it possible for the starter to crank, but the distributor not work? This doesn't seem possible, but that kinda seems like whats going on. I hooked up a timimng light and when I crank the engine over, I only get one flash, then nothing. I have rerun the power to the distributor with no change. I even skipped the solenoid and wired the distributor straight off the battery -- no change. If I crank it a second time w/o changing anything, I'll get nothing. If I unplug it or mess with the wiring, then I'll get one flash and nothing else. Can a bad ground cause this?

(I've already tried swapping distributors. Its a brand new Proform Racing Dist. Has anyone had any experience with one of these?)

if your running MSD or a spark box check the ground there

did you switch the entire dist cap and all or did you use the same cap could be a
sh!tty coil. if you are grounding somewhere you should see an arch somewhere. Do you have a ground from your exaust manifold to the frame? and how is your starter hooked up ? just a power wire and the jumper wire?

Brand new distributor with a bad Ignition Module. This is the second in a row that I've gotten that was junk. Maybe Proform distributors are junk. I put a stock module in it, that shouldn't create any problems, should it?

dirtracer is right the stock one falls off i put in a accell hi pro modual in mine and it was like night and day has alot more top end power even with a stock coil
