I'm building a Street Stock and read article on cooling & 1 to 1 ratio on water pump.I plan on running a 1 wire Alternator & a stock type P/S pump.Idont have anything yet.I would like to know what would be the most economical way to go.Should I use a short or long water pump?

USE STOCK TYPE PULLEY'S COST IS NOT WORTH BENIFIT FOR AFTERMARKET. MOST STOCK SETUPS WILL GIVE THE 1 TO 1. ON PS AND ALTINATOR. LOOK AROUND AND FIND A STOCK PULLY THAT WILL FIT THAT IS ABOUT 2/3 THE DIAMETER OF STOCK. I FOUND SOME IT JUST TOOK A WHILE IN THE JUNK YARD. WORKS PRITTY WELL. NO NEED FOR HIGH RPMS ON PS PUMP AND ALTINATOR DOES NOT HELP THAT MUCH BUT COSTS POWER.

SORRY I MENT 3/2 THINKING BACKWARD

On my street stock I run a lower pulley off of a Chev. 6 cylinder and a lower pulley off a front wheel drive Buick Riveria. The water pump pulley if off a Chrysler 6 cylinder truck two groove. Power steering pump and alt. are stock. (try on an alt. pulley to get the biggest one you can find)

In my opion there is nothing better than an aftermarket setup. A good set of deep groove pulleys comes with all the belts for the water pump. You will have to buy a belt for the p/s pump. As for running an alt. if your running a race for more than 100 laps I wouldn't reccomend it. I've ran 3 weeks on 1 charging of the bat. We ran 10 lap heats 5 lap trophy, and 20 lap mains. The best part is the pulleys you buy don't go with the claim, if you have claim rules. (I ran a 30% red. crank pulley, no heating problems,)
