thanks flatlander and jammin for the advise. I will be racing on a 3/8 mile track in Monett MO. So back to the gearing question . With this 305 motor and 350 trans I have( or I could find a powerglide ) what gearing should I try? Also flatlander what cam would you suggest? I will be running 10in ashfault tires regrooves.

For a street stock,I would try around a 6.20 or so, I think this will help get the little motor off the corner ok.

DEREK, IF YOU HAVE A TURBO 350, YOU COULD GET CLOSE TO THE 6.20 JAMMIN TOLD YOU ABOUT.
DON'T KNOW WHAT REAR GEARS YOU HAVE ACCESS TO,BUT TRY AND STAY WITH FACTORY RATIOS. IT WILL BE EASIER ON YOUR BILLFOLD.
....FACTORY REAR..TIMES...TH350..EQUAL...
....2.43....TIMES......2.52...=6.12....
....2.73....TIMES......2.52...=6.88....
YOUR POWERGLIDE WILL BE EITHER A 1.76 LOW OR A 1.82 LOW. YOU WILL MOST LIKELY HAVE TO BUY AFTER MARKET GEARS.
AS FOR A CAMSHAFT,ITS HARD TO DIG A TRENCH WITH A SPOON BUT SEALED POWER MAKES A CAM THAT HAS 287% DURATION .480 LIFT,PUT IN AT 4 DEGREES ADVANCE RUNS OUT OF STEAM AT ABOUT 6800 RPMS. USE Z28 VALVE SPRINGS AS THEY FIT THE STOCK POCKET AND DO NOT REQUIRE SCREW IN STUDS. THIS IS A GOOD HEAVY CAR 2BBL OR 4BBL CAM AT LOWER RPMS. PULLS GOOD OFF CORNER AND SHOULD WORK FINE ON A LONGER TRACK WITH THE 6.12 OR 6.20 FINAL GEAR. HOPE THIS HELPS. KEEP US POSTED.
