i have a 400 block and 6'rods what stroke do i need to make a 383 or what do you suggest is the best way to go its going to be a mod motor

Build a long rod 406. You'll need a 350 block to go with that 400 crank to make a 383, the other way around to make a 377. Wish I had a 406, more bang for your buck!

You might want to go to http://www.parkercarburetion.com/calculators.html and download the Engine Analysis v. 2.0 calculator. If nothing else it will eliminate a lot of math for you.
