i am going to rebuild my 355 this winter and i would like some opinions. right now its a 14.1 355 with sportsman heads. i run stock rods and crank with speed pro hyper. pistons. i plan on reusing the crank but getting new rods and pistons. do you think i should turn this into a 6" rod 355? speed pro makes a 6" rod piston but it has the 1.5 and 4.0mm ring sizes. what would be the best rings to use with that piston? anybody have trouble with the metric sizes rings? i dont wanna spend 180$ on gapless rings but would like a somewhat nicer set. thanks for any help

luke

ps...its in a stockcar running 112 racing fuel and turning 7100 rpm

IMO, if you're going to buy new 5.7 rods and pistons, you might as well have the 6" rods. Price is usually about the same for both.

I've used the Speedpro Hyper pistons with the metric rings. Nothing different about them to me. Sealed Power makes moly rings that I used.

I could be wrong, but I don't believe you should use gapless rings in hyper pistons.

I DON'T LIKE METRIC RINGS MYSELF DO YOU NOTICE THAT 4.3 MOTORS ALWAYS SMOKE SOONER THAN THEY SHOULD? THEY HAVE METRIC RINGS,I'D STICK WITH 5/64 THEY MAY HAVE MORE DRAG BUT I THINK IT'S WORTH IT.

I would never run a set of hyper pistons several years and if you have done so you are a lucky fellow and have a ticking time bomb. I would use crank again if it checks good. Just my two cents.

i have junked 2 sets of hypers cause i ran them to long. thats why i wanna change them out. they are cheap (129 or so a set) so i figured thats better than blowing a motor and getting all new everything!!
