I have heard that you should use the longest connecting rod as possible. I was wondering how you determine this. For example: I have a stock chevy 350 engine. 3.48 stroke and 5.7 rod. The pistons are .275 domed at 10.4 compression with 76cc heads. Now, is it possible to put a longer rod in this? If so, how would I determine how much longer I could go? What do I need to measure or check for?

check out this months speedway illustrated. they have a rod comparison test. according to them, you can't put a long enough rod in todays engines to get the ideal 2.2 rod/stroke ratio. to use a longer rod, you have to change the piston to one with a higher pin location.

JUST DON'T GET TOO LONG ON PAPER THEY HELP, BUT WITH REALLY LONG RODS YOU START GETTING INTO THE OIL RING GROOVE(HIGHER PIN HEIGHT)6" AND 6.2" RODS ARE COMMON ANYTHING OVER THAT IS PROBABLY OVERKILL.

you chevy guys.........that's why i like fords. 351W's have a 9.5" deck height. you can use a 6.58" rod if you want. any of you ford guys ever tried a 400 rodded 351W?

well us "dumb ole okies" know how to put fords up front. we have 2 fords in outlaw stock and both of them are capable of winning. there are over 20 chevrolets and only about 6 or 7 are capable of winning.

tilley and dean.....how do you explain that? better yet, come race with us and we'll explain to you!

Did you say Capable ?? If your 2 cars are CAPABLE and there are only 6 or 7 Chevys Capable, Then who else is winning ?? Do you only have a 10 car field ??

If tilly and I come race with you then the average for chevy wins will go up, so now your comparison between the two would be false.

It's all good Ford boys !!

Gee, I just needed some rod length info. Did'nt think this topic would turn into a Chevy-Ford war. LMAO! Well, might as well put in my two cents. Ford's, yep.........they suck.
