Pushrod length depends on a lot of things, like valve length, head milling, block milling, rocker arms, etc. I can't recall doing a set of Sportsman heads that did not require a pushrod that was longer than stock. If you don't know how to determine the length needed, Moroso makes a tool for less than $10 that makes it easy. A proper length pushrod adds a tiny bit to power output, and a whole lot to reliability and longevity. A pushrod that is too short lessens the clearance between the rocker arm and spring retainer. This is a critical clearance point that a lot of guys overlook. If they touch, the valve is opened by pushing on the retainer instead of the stem. This will lead to very bad things.
