i have an over heating problem the whole season and i can't solve it.i'm at 250 by lap 13 or so.Sooner if we have a yellow.i have a shroud on it 5 blade steel fan and i have the fan about 1 1/2 inches from the radiator.we have tried every thing in the book to cool this thing but nothing works
We boxed the front so the air has no where to go but threw the radiator. We restricted the flow, tried it wide open i even backed the timing off to 34to free it up that didn't worl either.oh and i'm running on gas to. any input would be greatfull thanks

We also have had our share of overheating problems over the years, and if everything else is ok(this can be a big if), it's usually the radiator. They can look great inside and out, but still won't work worth a darn. Getting hot under yellow could mean not enough flow. Bad radiator again, or too much underdrive. 50% is too much. We turn the pump at 67% of crank speed. If you're taking temp from the cylinder head, move the sender up to the intake manifold water outlet. IMHO, this gives a truer and more consistant picture of the system. The distance from the fan to the radiator is not real critical if you have a good shroud, and it probably will pull more evenly 8-12" away. Shroud should leave rear 1/2- 2/3 of fan blades exposed. We have refined our system so our engines now run about 160-180 depending on weather, and will spike to 200-210 after the race. These are 355-370s on gas with 14:1 and higher, straight water. If there is any interest, I will detail our setup, but it is kinda long.
