i'm considering switching to mods next yr.what heads would you recommend for a 406 flat top JE ultralights,6 inch rods,lightened crank,pretty hefty solid cam.this is mt street stock motor and its got power but i know its not enough for mod

What are your rules? Aluminum? Iron? Porting ok? Angle milling allowed? 23 degree only? Whaassup?

Personally, if you can only run cast iron heads, I think that the Iron Eagle heads are about the best bang for the buck. We run them on our modified, and have had no problems. As for aluminum heads, I have no idea, we havent run them. Just my opinion

AMRA rules.they are pretty open.i'd like to stay under 2 grand if at all possible

You are right, they are pretty open, but with some kind of claim rule. For 2K you have a lot of choices, most of them good ones. I would think aluminum would be the way to go here. Dress 'em out with good parts and put the rest of the 2K in port work. We've used Darts with good results also, but there is a new boy in town that deserves a VERY good look, and that is the Pro Action head from New Zealand. They are the FIRST head whose flow numbers matched their ad claims, at least on my bench, and if you are running against guys with ported Darts and the like, they will be competitive right out of the box. If you've got $250 to spend, back cut the valves like they say, and have some exhaust port work done. No kidding, I could not believe how good they looked compared to a set of severely massaged (and expensive!)Darts.
