I have read where you and your dad (Bill on another forum)have talked very highly of the Crower Sportsman Rods. My question is what kind of horsepower, compression, and RPM can these rods handle. I am really looking at buying a set and just wanted some real world numbers.

Thanks

Jim

Hey Jim ,

I've had the Crower Sportsman rod's in an engine that was right at 600HP , 377 on alky , 14.5:1 compression . This engine has been running for 3 seasons and has approximately 120 races on it . It's freshened and magnifluxed after every 20 races , and the original Crower Sportsman rods are still going strong !! I speak highly of them because they are the best inexpensive rod that you can buy , and have last . So .... I would not be scared to use this rod in a 600HP engine , with 14.5:1 compression . I know they will last at least 120 races with no crack's !! I'll let you know how they look at 140 races ..lol

Steve

P.S. I've never seen a broken or cracked sportsman rod that was not previously attached to a crank that had spun a bearing .

Steve,

Thanks for the info. I am planning on building a 550 to 600 hp motor with between 14 and 15 to 1 compression. After reading your post I think I will give these rodes a shot.

One other thing, I have also heard good things about callies dragonslayer crankshaft. Would this crank hold up in this motor.

Thanks

Jim

Yes I think it would . It is probably the best crank that you can buy for the price . I have not used this crank in a 600hp engine , but I would trust it . Callies makes good American made product's , and I have never had a problem with there quality , or durability , on any of there cranks that I've used over the years .
