How do i tell if my alcohol engine is lean? My engine builder says you cannot go by reading the plugs, that you should read exhaust temps. How the **** was i supposed to know? Will this cause it to sieze a valve? and smack shut the plug?

Help!!!!

I'd suggest dealing with an engine builder who is more familiar with alcohol ! Yes , alky plug's are totally readable !!! I'd start taking your engine apart if you closed a plug and seized a valve . Odds are ...you were too lean and you'll be missing the top ring land on the piston in the hole that closed the plug . You will also need to look for tuliped valve's ! At any time when you were racing , did the car seam to bog down for no reason ?? If it did , then you burned a piston .

I will just add a few thoughts, was this a new motor and the first night? I would check all the valve guide clearances. Sounds like you used a shop that builds street car motors......the fit-up need to be a little more clearance for a race motor. The valve guides are honed to size, if all you have is a bent valve........the fit-up was not correct. If you have any part of the piston flaking off or burned off parts of that piston will get into the guide and stick the valve. You need to decide, was the valve stuck because of another problem or was the problem created from the valve being too tight in the guide?
