Hey guys, I just put a new cam and lifters in my car at the end of last season and it ran good, a little more power coming off, which is what I was looking for...I've been starting it off and on this winter and when I do, it has this really harsh smell from the exhaust, it almost burns your eyes and really leaves it smellin funny. It never did this before and I know something is not right. I've heard that when you change a cam sometimes you have to mess with the air/fuel mix. Is it running too lean, too rich, is something burning up inside there, is it in the timing, or am I just looking too close? Maybe I should pull a plug out and look at it. Anybody ever experienced anything like that or know what it means, or have I lost everyone?
Thanks in advance.
I forgot, it's a plain jane 350, gas, mild cam, and that's it.

You're probably loading up. Pull a plug or two and I'll be they are black as coal or even wet.
That "smell" is undoubtedly unburned fuel that is burning your eyes, etc.
Check the timing, install new plugs, and wherever possible, don't let it sit and just idle for long periods of time anyway. If possible, drive the car, put a load on it, and keep it "cleaned out" like that.
In a nutshell, you're just seeing an overly rich condition.

Hope that helps, and keep us posted,

I have a mild street machine and when I get bad gas from some of these trashy gas staions I get a pugnant smell and the engine tends to desiel when I try to shut it down. I have to burn out the tank and sometimes I have to put some octane booster in it to get me by. If the car has set for a while the oxygent in the fuel you are buying may have left you is what I have been told. Hope this was worth reading!
