I think It depends on what size tires your running you can only get so much to the ground with an 8" tire, and what the tracks are like that you run on. The biggest motor in the world only goes so fast on a dry slick track. Just my 2 cents.

I would rather have too much motor than not enough. You can always lift or feather but if your foots on the firewall and there is no more it`s gonna be a long night. Been there.

The only time I ever felt like I had to much was when it was dry slick so I just didn't mash the gas as far.

Engine size today doesnt mean much.I have seen several 360 motors with 18 degree heads put out 700 + HP turn 8000-8500.My 434 puts out 600 HP but 555 FT LBS turns 7300.Ive seen some 430 at 675-700 HP.It all depends on the way the cam reacts.The cam is the most important part of a engine.But sometimes forgotten over the size of the engine.
