How difficult is it to do your own valve job? I have seen a few books advertised on doing this. Have any of you read any of these and tried it yourselves. Sounds like a great cheap way to pick up some power.

It is also a great cheap way to LOSE a ton of power or worse yet, ruin a good set of heads.
If you can, go see a professional machinist and sit and watch how complicated, time consuming, and technical a professionally done valve job is.
And I won't bother to quote prices on the tooling needed to do it correctly and accurately. You could buy several sets of heads for the price of just the bare minimum of tooling.

Sorry to sound cynical. Just don't wanna see you make mistakes that could be costly.

I will say this, I have seen the tools for a valve job for rent in a rental store, but I agree with KP. I watched my heads getting done one day and one hole took about an hour for a three angle valve job. it was a lot of put that blue stuff on valve, put in hole, bang it on the seat, examine, grind, repeat.
