K I plan to finally start my fun this year. Time to get out of the stands and see what I'm missing in the dirt.
I have the car in my sights (dealing for it). Need a fire resistant suit. What should I look for in the Suit? What are the favorite cheap- selections I should look for while poking around? Likes/hates? Some guys look like they just wear greasy coveralls and tennis shoes.

It depends on what your intentions are. If you are looking to only go out a couple of times, buy your self some nomex coveralls. They are cheaper than a race suit. But If you have full intentions to pursue a lengthy career in racing, buy yourself a race suit. In the end, think safty, not dollars.

Good luck!!

On another safety issue- Always wear a neck brace. In the 2000 season I wasn't required to wear one so I didn't. My neck always hurt afterwards. In the 2001 season I had to wear one, my neck never hurt again.

Some good info here! Had not considered the neck brace. I don't think many wear them around here yet but I think I like the idea. What are some of the other safety stuff I should consider?

Saftey is the top of the list, racing is fun,but at the local level you can get hurt as bad as at a professional level,Like Dr. D1ck of Speedway Illustrated says"if you got a $10.00 head then put a $10.00 helmet on it."

I have been a firefighter for 20 years, This is not a place to scrimp. Fire can burn thru
clothing in less than 5 seconds, can you get out of your car that fast? Do not get a treated suit, by Nomex 1 layer at the least and wear cotton clothing under it, buy a good
helmet and the best gloves money can buy. without your hands, your can't do a certain thing in the bathroom that having someone else do would be imbarrassing. get some shoes
that are for RACING. I have One word for safety SIMPSON. Grease burns too, you know, so that would be the last thing i would wear

Ya, my first year I did not like the neck restraint. I made me too hot. Well in my second race I went head on into the wall.
My neck was sore for a week. I learned my
leason, the concrete hard wall way.

I was checking out suits the other day and stumbled across the bell motorsports website. If you go to the closeout page they have a good selection of suits, neck collars and helmets that were discontinued, misordered, returned, etc. The prices are fantastic. The one downside is that you can not phone in questions and can only order these items by fax. I took a chance and ordered a $550 suit for $179. Its worth checking out if you are looking for safety gear and are on a tight budget.

First off your right bout a neck brace donut whatever you wanna call them. That's gonna be the best money you'll spend in my opinion. On a racing suit myself I got 3 of them. I got 2 1 pieces and 1 two piece. Yeah the advantage of a 2 piece is able to take the jacket off while working on the car and not have to wrap the sleeves around your waist or gut. But I go through race equip.
