My wifes class runs at Electric City speedway in Great Falls Montana. its a fun class and a great place to learn and if you run a metric GM you can easily move up to the street stock class. ours is WISSOTA streets.
Problem is the promoter wants to keep the car count above 12 and doesn't want to make anyone mad so the rules get overlooked sometimes.
cars can be of any make or model but most use
chevy or ford. has to use same engine. nothign fancy can go on with motor but some do. running gear has to be stock but you can mess with springs and shocks. You can find stock springs that will work, but you need a spring rate tester. shocks mostly are those stock APPEARING shocks. We use weathermaster tires, any are ok just not a racing tire. they must be DOT approved. the promoter lets us use the old bart wheels that the street stock guys are throwing out cause they arn't stamped. when those dry up, its back to the steel wheels. 2 or 4 barrell carbs.
Its a fun class but the cost can get bad. Make sure your promoter ENFORCES the rules

The key to Detroit Iron classes is writing clear rules and enforcing them. For instance, "stock cam" well, General Motors made cams with more lift and duration than I run in my Sportsman! "Stock "springs--now how do you plan to enforce that? Racing is relative---if all the cars are turning aprox the same lap times, ya got yerself a race! I like 4 barrels. The internal engine components don't have to be light in order to make power. I'd write rules taht called for stock suspension parts in stock locations. Stock mounted shocks and springs. Six point cage with one front loop with TWO bars down to the frame. Go with aftermarket noses--the safety crew has less debris to pick up after the race. Call a part # on cyl heads (882 GM)there's only about a blue million of them around. 358 cid limit vacuume rules are great! c 6 or 350 turbo all gears and converter working. AND TECH them!!! Find ya some guy who likes racing and give him a coupla pit passes every Sat night in exchange for being tech. Just over that class---and run them first every week. They do wonders for the track surface. Have fun!! Eljojo

el thats pretty much what our rules are i disagree with the vac rule it's to much to deal with just keep it with a hydrolic cam smogger head and and cube limit that way a guy can do like i do every year i find an old pick up in the paper with a 350 in it then pull the motor and put a re ring kit and a cam in it thats it i have about 300 in all my motors they all are under 9-1 comp but they all don't have the samwe cast# head when you make it so you have to run a certin number it makes the price of them go up no mater how many there are around if i have then and you need then your gonna pay what i want or you don't race i like to stay away from that

I race pure stock at Thunder Mountain in Jacksonville/Rusk Texas. I think that our cars have gotten a little out of hand as far as whats allowed. We can run quick steer, 8" wheels, any offset, 60 series tires or the imca american racers, 4 bbl (stock). I dont know, it just seems like a lot for a beginneer class. I like the 7" wheels(and they better be factory too, no racing offsets) and 70 series tires. It really takes the motor out of the picture.

racer17j,
NO!! hahaha The "Black Hole is still there,I have a website uforacing.homestead.com and the Electric city speedway site is linked to mine thru "points", you may see a photo of the black hole
I have some neat photos of old racing at the speedway on my site too. There was a fellow killed that drove off that hole on a practice night a few years ago, suprising it has not been covered.
