what do you guys suggest doing engine wise? my rules are kinda strict everything has gotta remain stock on the engine but i was wondering if i should go to my local yard and find a decent 350 out of a chevy and send it out to be rebuilt or should i just buy a brand new 350 crate engine from gm that i can get for a bout 2 grand. other people ive asked about this have mixed feelings. let me know cuz i gotta start saving up.

get a yard motor and have it machined you can do alot to a "stock " engine yet that will not be detected do like i do find a newspaper and find a rusty old bomb that has somehting wrong with it my last 3 motors have been junk yard motors two had spun bearings so i bought new cranks for them and including a good hydrolic cam i have less then 500 in each of them the last one i bought was a 69 chevy truck that was going to blow anyday now cause it smoked under the hood and it didn't run right well needless to say a new coil and a new dip stick tube cure all that was wrong with it so i pulled the motor then sold the truck for $50 more then i payed for it with out a motor and tranny

If your willing to spend 2 grand on a crate motor. I'd take that money and have a junk yard worked over. You can rebuild that motor to the specs of say an LT1 (stock) that will out perform that crate motor. With the money you have left, spend it on good springs and shocks. Because if you can't harness the power in the motor, then it's all a waste of money.

If everything has to be stock including the cam I would try to find a RV cam they have excellent bottom end torque and it sounds just like stock. I don't know if it works on bigger tracks but it sure worked for my friend on a 3/10th mile track
