will more gear help keep from breaking the tires loose off the corner? I heard that with less gear when the tires break loose the wheel spin is faster than the motor. Would really appreciate any comments Thanks racingj1

we prefer to run a lower gear because it seems with a high gear its harder to get the tires back if they do break loose. also the driver finds it easier to drive if we turn the motor more because it is already making good power off the corner at about 6800 and turn about 8200 at the end of the shoot, and doesnt come on mid straight like it does running a higher gear. Some drivers like to run a high gear so they can flat foot it off the corner and lug the motor to keep from spinning the tires. It all comes down to driving style though, at the ump nationals i talked to people running everything from a 5.0 to a 5.83 and by the sound of some of the cars there were prob some running as high as 4.86.

A claimer motor that turns 8200? Where do yourace? What car # are you?How fast can you pull a motor? If I claim you will you still respect me in the morning? I thought I had a pretty nice little claimer that turns 7000. I too like the lower gear for dry,If you do break the tires loose, you can catch them quicker.

8200 RPM sounds like a strong little motor! We figure if we get 7200 thats turning it on pretty good for a mod with those 8in hard tires.
