Never ran a half mile and looking for gear start. Emod tires that are 86 and 84 i have heard that the track has long sweeping turns the WoO ran mid 16s at that track. Like to keep the motor close to 7000 but not over all input would be great the race is next friday and i will post what gear we end up with and how we did. Thanks guys and keep up the good work!!!

on imca tires,80-82 inches i run a 4.56-4.86 on a half mile. with the bigger tire i would run a 5.14-5.29.

I run on a 3/10 mile with tight turns and i run a 5.29 and turn about 67 to 6800 rpms.I was wondering how the 29s would work on the 1/2.

WHEN I RAN A 5.14 ON A HALF ONCE I TURNED CLOSE TO 7200 HALF WAY DOWN THE STRAIGHTAWAY AND HAD TOO BACK OFF DUE TOO ENGINE BUZZING. FOR A HALF WITH A STRONG 355 OR A STRONG 406 I WOULD RUN A 4.71 GEAR ON A HALF. IT IS THE BEST OVERALL GEAR FOR A HALF UNLESS YOUR ENGINE IS WEAK THEN RUN A 4.86.

with 355 motor, 530 lift cam, 300 duration, sportsman II heads, 11 to 1 compression I could run a 5.29 and still keep it under 7000 at Volusia Speedway, Florida. Ran a 5.43 at St. Augustine dirt track, still under 7000 rpm as turns were slower, less banked and never any grip in a dry track. Won lots of races with that setup. Have heard a 4.86 is needed for Eldora as it is banked and faster turns. So the grip in the track, the tightness of turns and banking of turns makes big difference in gearing for same length track. Take all into consideration. Tires were 86 inches diameter on my setup. I beat a lot of cars that were buzzing their tires every week, but not because of wrong gearing but because of too much motor for 8" tires!!!! Build a dependable, low dollar motor, cam the motor right, gear car right and you can beat the full high compression roller buzzing there tires.

We run a 355 and a 383 both with stock rods and cranks but we like to get it all to the ground i never was a big fan of spinning away hp we build just enough to stay up front. I havnt seen the track but i have heard its not banked real high but the turns are wide!

ran a 5.29 and 86" tires at terra heute last year...turned bout 8200-8500...i agree with the 4.71-4.86 to keep revs down.

We run two 1/2 mile fairground tracks with D40/A40 Hoosiers and a tired 377 and use 5:14's and turn about 7100.
