Should mini spools be replaced occasionally or do they last a long time. Mine is about three years old and I am curious to know if these things break after awhile.

BB, well, we run steel, and I have never broken one, knock on wood, but I think they should be checked often for spline wear. That would be the first sign of failure.

A good idea would be to replace the stock crosspin with a better one in a mini-spool.. I had a crosspin shear off last year and wrecked an otherwise perfect set of gears. Rebuilt them with a full spool, so I wouldn't know who to call to find a better crosspin, but I know they're out there.
