We are currently running a 383 (very impressive) with 5.7 rods. What would a 6" rod do for the 383? Just an idea we've been kicking around; we would appreciate any opinions you want to send. Thanks

6" Rods will give the motor more torque, which I don't think that is what you need. It will pull hard enough off the bottom side as it is.

I've heard very relible sources, including Smokey Yunich, say that there is a difference and I agree. The top dead center dwell (time the piston stays on top) is longer with the addition of rod length and it increases the amount of power (combustion) transferred to the piston, rod, crank.....wheels - you get the idea. It does make a difference and you will notice it on the track! Good luck!

Looks to me like you made my point. He says that the 6" rod is his favorite for the SB chevy. I don't know about drag racing but a 10th of a second gain on each straight away on a twenty lap race.......looks like 4 seconds - that's a pretty big margin in my book! It all counts at the flagstand whether you can tell it or not. Good luck!
PS - I personally would use the 5.7 rod just because of cost and availability but don't believe for a second that the fast guys are doing the same.
