What are your views on it. I don't like it myself, but think something has to be done to keep the price down on these things.

I agree with the basic claim rule but feel the dollar amount is to low. I was at a track meeting with the new promoter for the Clinton, Ok. track and his feeling on it was a $1250 plus swap the engines. Other than the one item he,s running IMCA rules. Granted your hard pressed to build a fast and dependable engine for $1250 but its better than some of the other prices I have seen.

I don't think that would make a difference, just basically make it where there is no claim, people that can afford to put the stuff in the motors are going to do it anyway, reguardless of the claim. I think its just a formality.

i have a 12,000.oo 420ci sbc would you be willing to compete against motors like this?? i dont think so!! i have run this in a mod and believe it or not i can hook it up. this thing is scarry. only run it in non claiming events.i would hate to see this motor deal get out of hand without a claim!!
lose the claim and it becomes (he who has the most money wins the most)!! this motor is for sale!!!! CLIAM AND SWAP MOTORS IS THE ONLY LOGICAL CHOICE FOR EVERYBODY ALIKE!!
ANY BODY THINK ABOUT A CUBIC IN. RULE TOO???

The one with the most money still comes out ahead anyway, because if you have the money, you don't care about the claim, got 4 more sitting at home just like it. So why not give a guy that is able to put more money in his (one) motor to keep it together?

The claim rule the way it is now just plain sucks. I believe it should be a $750 and swap rule. At least then you can go home with somthing that can aleast finish on the lead lap and have a motor for the next race. We build good motors to run because we want somthing that will last more than 3-4 nights.

We are looking to go to latemodel for just this reason. Its just getting too expensive to run mods, might as well run lates.

Nobody is going to pay money and swap engines. This is the problem - no one will claim and costs will skyrocket! We have never claimed but we have lost 3 engines (1 in hobbies and 2 in stock cars). All of them had over 10 nights on them and none of them cost over $1500 to build. Leave the claim alone - it doesn't cost anymore to build a SB chevy today than it did 10 years ago (I have receipts) - probably costs less! If you don't like the claim - don't race IMCA. Thay are making enough stupid changes on the rules as is - I hope they don't change this one!
