I am looking for a small die grinder and associated grinding wheels to do some minor porting and some gasket matching. Any recommendations? Air or electric? Would like to find something good for under 50 or so dollars or less.
Thanks
WR

Go to Harbor Frieght in Newark and buy a
cheap air die grinder with a 1/4 chuck ($10-15). Call Summit or go to Vic Hubbards and buy a Standard Abrasives porting kit. This will put you slightly above your budget. I don't think you will find an electric die grinder anywhere near that price range. Keep the air die grinder oiled and it will last for years.

I bought a air type from Sears. I've probably got more than 150 hrs on this die grinder used to port several sets of head and never had any problems. keep it oiled and run a filter/water separator on you air compressor. Standard Abrasives is a good supplier of all things needed & I HIGHLY recommend getting your hands on a copy of David Vissar book on porting SBC heads. It's the best and will help you understand where to work and more important - where not to touch!!!!! Good Luck.
