.030 is good for a 135. Depending on welder brand and model you may be able to go up to .035 if it has a good duty cycle.

I used a Hobart and .035 for my car. Worked fine.

A friend who is a modified chassis builder was giving me a "mig welding lesson" Tuesday, as I had just bought a mig welder. He is also a noted modified driver in my area. He has a bunch of welders in his shop, but he likes a Hobart Handler 120 with .023 for welding on race cars. He says using the smaller wire is a little slower but gives you better control of the weld. I thought I would throw this out there for "something to think about". I'm gonna be trying it, 'cause I'm starting to build a new pure stock for my wife, and I want to use the new mig instead of my old stick welder.
