i would also go with a honda generator. they are a little on the pricey side, but they do run quiet with plenty of power. bought mine at sam's club and got a pretty good deal.

I'm pretty happy with our 3500watt Craftsman/Sears generator. It won't run a small welder but it's perfect for drills, lights etc....5hp Briggs & Stratton with a wheeled stand and surprisingly quiet!

Jammin, I have a 2400 watt Generac. It's 6 or 7 years old and still running good. After getting a large enclosed trailer I now need a bigger generator due to all the lights I now have, but I'll keep the Generac with me for a backup. Ken

It's not as quiet as a Honda, but I've heard louder ones. Ken

Hey I guess the price on that one went way down, huh? Seriously though, I have a Generac now and it is NIIIICE. I cant tell the difference in the Honda and Generac noise level because Patrick has a Honda and it is as loud as mine.

i bought my generac 5000 at home depot in mesquite texas 2 years ago for 499.00 it says it peaks at 6250 watts and i run a lincoln 100 wire welder with it and it just dims the lights in the trailer. its a nice piece but its far from quiet. can you put a honda muffler on a generac?

I have not yet tried it, but I would think there would be some way to attach a flexable metal pipe (flex conduit?) of a suitable diameter to the exhaust. And of enough length to give the desired noise level.I know Home Depot sells replacement mufflers for lawn mowers. Possibly weld two or more in series with stock muffler? Into a car muffler? Or maybe run the exhaust into a container of water? Rube Goldburg lives again!!!

I ran a pipe from my Honda trought the bottom of my cargo trailer and hooked up to a small tractor muffler with a sharp turndown at the end >> if you stand next to my trailer... it sounds like someone is mowing 2 blocks away... pretty sweet!
