I'd like to get an Auto darkening
Welding helmet and was wondering what you
think of the solar ones?
Anybody like them?
Which brands are good/better?

Anyone heard of the brand-name "Rand"?
Reason I ask is there's a pile of them on Ebay.

I'm tired of crapping out my first bit
of weld, I think a good helmet will help.

my advice just keep praticing welding. and adjust your helment were it falls down when you flip your neck forward real quick. then just learn to be steady. it is pretty easy to learn. i have used and seen some autodark ones they were ok no big advantage for the money. plus all the ones i have seen are easy to break.

I have a Jackson brand that I've had for 8 years. It is the 300+ dollar one with shade adjustment and all, is powered by 1 AA battery but I think it runs off a solar cell on the front when welding, cause a battery last a year. This is the greatest inovation since electric welding..... It is almost mandatory when TIG welding since both hands are in use..They have come down in price in the last few years, you welding will definately improve with it....

I also have an auto darkening helmet and I'll never go back,I do a lot of welding and it makes the jobs go faster. The solar cell on mine is there to help keep the battery charged;the 2 AAA bateries have lasted over a year.

mine has a button for grinding, torching and of course welding it was 350.00 well worth it.

the solar ones die eventually, my new one has a battery.

i have had several solar ones.

if you dont want a 3 way like mine get the one with the big window, they are way better.
