I am here in Texas and am having a hard time finding a metric. The only place I have not looked is the wrecking yard is this a good place to look or will I be wasting my time. People want to much for the cars around here. best deal I found so far is an 80 Malibu rolling chassis for $400. Should I expect to pay this much for just a shell and frame or am I being unresonable?

Junkyard is the best place to find cars Just make sure the car isnt in the Junkyard because it was in an accident and the wheelbase is messed up. Most my parts ceom from the junkyard lol.

I'd look around for cars that are still running. You can pick them up for about $200-$300 bux depending on who owns them. Sometimes they run, sometimes they don't but they aren't in the junkyard. More than likely your junkyard has been picked of all the good ones.

If that roller Malibu is a rust free Texas car I don't think $400 is too out of line. If the back of the frame is rusted out and all of the body is rusted away, yeah, that is steep. Also they are probably asking more since it's a Malibu instead of a garden variety V6 Regal. Keep your eye on any local newspapers / auto traders and you'll happen across one. They are out there.

what's better a regal/monte carlo or malibu. The malibu wb is a little shorter right?

The Malibu wheelbase is the same 108" as all the Metrics (Monte Carlo, Grand Prix, Regal, Cutlass, Lemans), but the front and rear overhang is less which makes the car shorter overall.

Not sure if you know this or not since you mention Regal/Monte Carlo and the Malibu - but don't forget to keep your eye out for a Cutlass or Grand Prix also - they are metric cars too.

I bought a 83 cutlass for 225.00 and drove it home in Texas. Even had a 1/2 tank of gas. got the title too,,,,it was sitting in front of a s**** metal yard with $300.00 on the windshield,,bargained it down for 225.00 V-6 and it was all there even the cruise control,,Mexican owner had gone home back to Mexico and his budy was selling it,,it was pretty clean but was hitting on 5 cylinders maybe, but it ran & drove home LOL. Got lucky ,,,, but it is a cutlass.

Go cruise around and look for them out behind buildings , in yards , ect . Most times they have lost the title and a "good" salvage yard won't take them with out it . Offer them a couple bucks and most times you get it .Right now is the best time . extra $'s for xmas .Good hunting .

the malibu is by far the most popular metric car. you can expect to pay top dollar for a good one. i would s****e up the money to buy any and all of em i could find for under a grand, that are straight and have only minor rust. but remember that everything enterchanges except the sheet metal, so keep this in mind too.

ALSO REMEMBER WHEN LOOKING FOR STUFF LIKE A-FRAMES AND SPINDLES THAT S-10 AND S-10 BLAZER ARE THE SAME.

PERSONALLY I LIKE THE CUTLASS BODY STYLE BEST, HOWEVER THAT IS JUST PERSONAL OPNION.
AS FAR AS I KNOW THE BODY WILL NOT MAKE ANY ADVANTAGES ON THE TRACK.MOST OF THE TIME THE MALIBU WILL BE HARDER TO FIND AND MORE EXPENSIVE.
