I have seen numerous cars with the front bay coming directly off the dash bar, I have been told to mount it off the front down bars instead and bend it so it fits the front frame section, seems like coming off the dash bar would save you time so that you wouldnt have to bend the bars to fit, would mounting it off the dash then coming off the main down bars into it diagnally support it enough in a heavy front end impact or would it be better off the main down bars and bending it to fit. i have done them both ways and both work fine , i worried tthat the one to the cross tube would bend the tube in a crash but with proper support it was fine

It is best if the dash bar is at the same height as the top door bars and connect to the down tubes. This reduces flex and incorperates the front bay into the main chassis. If it is mounted to the dash bar damage is doing to be transmitted to the bar and not the main cage which sould be designed to take it.
With it into the dash bar the impact is directed to the 2 welds that hold the dash bar in place. Tied to the main cage the impact is transmitted to the main cage and distributed to the chassis. Not to a bar with 2 welds on a bar that is straight in front of the driver. I have seen this bend the dash bar back, breaking the right side weld and pushed the steering mount back and it pinned the driver in the seat. He could not get out until they cut the steering shaft off. If the car had been on fire it would have been REALLY bad.

if you put it how you feel looks good then do it i have had cars done both ways been hit head in both and neither bent that far up your frame usually takes most of the punishment
