My metric I-stock weighs 2950 with driver and 12 gal. of fuel but only has 47.4% rear weight. The cage can be moved back 8" and the body can go back 3/4" or so. I calculated that by doing this, I would gain 1.0% in the rear. Has anyone done this before? Was it worth it? I have all the tools and know-how to do it, I just wanted to get some other opinions. Thanks!

I would really like a new car, but I don't want to spend the $$$ right now. My car handles great on a wet or tacky track, but is less than optimum on a dryslick track, even with added weight. I have 150# of lead ready to bolt in and plenty more available, but I hate to add any more weight because the car is already as heavy as most of the ones I run against. I am running a 360 and most of the others have 383's and 406's. It would look cool to have the cage set back like the others, too.

I already gutted the car to the max. It has a 10# aluminum bumper on the front, a 14# aluminum hood, a Powerglide with direct drive, Dart Iron Eagle heads and a 12# Weiand intake. The trunk floor is all removed and I have a floater that is 50# heavier than a stock metric rearend. The cage is the IMCA specified 1 3/4" X .095 tubing and the rest of the bars are 1 1/2" X .095 and 1 1/4" X.065. I bought the car used but don't I know why it's as heavy as it is. I'm out of stuff to lighten it up. Last year I took about 200# off of it. It weighs 2750 without driver and 12 gal. of fuel. I would like to build a new car, but finances won't allow it right now.

When you said you bought it used, it raised a question in my mind.
Are any of the pipes leaded or weighted inside?
The reason I ask is because my car is heavy also, and after talking to the previous owner, he told me the bars in the back are lead filled.
Because when the car was built there was no added weight allowed.

I have looked all over it and haven't found any mystery weight. I only have a left rocker since I got the right one torn up. They are only about 6# each, though. There aren't any of what I would call excessive bars in the car. I have some 1 1/4" X .065 bars behind the nose and in front of the radiator, but that's only about 9#. I know, all the little stuff adds up though. The 1 3/4" bars I have drilled into didn't seem like they were any thicker than .095. There is also no X or other tubing under the car. I'm going to work on it after the weather gets better and cooler. I don't know for sure who built it. I bought it from Tatum, Texas. It has "CC 2-01" on the left frame rail by the steering box. I was told this was "Cheetah Chassis". I assume it was built in Feb. 2001.

I agree with the new car bit but.I moved my cage back and gained quite a bit.It cost me almost nothing to move it back cause I just added to the front hoop bars.We have to weight 3000.

Just got to luv these racers especially racer17. We like his answers and we just added 50 more lbs. tonite to see if we cant pull off one. We might be 500 over are weight rule but we now have 52% rear with 53 left and 51 cross and think we just might rock and roll tonite. Thanks racer17 for all the help and advice.
