I am running a 351W with all stock oem ignition parts at this time. How much performance gain would I see if I upgrade to better aftermarket parts? I can't run any MSD parts at all. Looking at upgrading dist. to either a Mallory HEI style with coil in the cap, or a Mallory Unilite, or possibly an Accel billetproof, Accel billetech and upgrading coil if not the HEI style. Which would you suggest and why? Is the performance gains worth the extra money for these expensive parts??? What about wires, are the more expensive wires any better?

the ford distributer is good if its in good shape in fact MSD uses the ford pickup module in their ignition , have the mechanical advance recurved and eliminate the vacuum anvance , if you can run an aftermarket ignition box you may see some gain and definately a coil upgrade , and yes the more expensive good wires are much better than the 20 dollar ones for one they stay on the plug when things get rough on the track and they dont break down and weaken spark like the cheaper ones

Which "stock" ignition system are you using now? Duraspark, tfi, or points?

Change to a better coil, and some good wires. Other than that you have an excellent ignition system now.
