I'm building my first hobby stock car and was wondering what I should be planning on running for a final gear ratio on a 3/8 mile track. I dont want to run it much over 6500 rpms. I think I'm gong to run a powerglide.

I think it is 6.50 as a general rule. I used to run a 4.56 gear in second gear with a turbo 350 if that helps any. This is on a 3/8th and turned like 5800 to 6300 depending on track conditions

We run 4.10 in 2nd gear with a TH350 with 88 roll and we turn 6100-6200 on a sweeping 3/8ths.

I agree with the quote. the 3/8 track I run at everyone gears 6.00 to 6.33, the 3/8 track in the next county everyone gears 6.50 to 7.00 with the same tires. Ask some of the drivers that run at the track you are building for what they run - gears and engine size. Someone running a 355 will usually gear lower than someone running a 406.

right on street i could care less what somebody that runs something that is not even close to what i have for a setup thats like a drag racer getting on here and telling us what he runs on a 1/4 mile unless you plan on running a 1/4 mile drag track too thats useless info. those are 5 things that a guy has to know before they should suggest any gears
