I took a hit in the passenger door and right rear that bent the rear end. By measuring from the rear end to holes in the frame on each side , it looks like the right side is moved back 3/8 of an inch. I removed the control arms and compared them to known good ones and they are fine. I was thinking maybe I could drill new holes 3/8 of an inch farther back on the bracket on the rear end to make up the difference to square it back up. What do you think?

How is the right way? I'm just trying to fix it without having to buy another rear end.

I agree with 17j on this one. That said, you can remove rear and put tires back on. Now have 2 people hold a tape measure across tires and a third person rotate the housing. on a dirt car 1/4" movement is acceptable and both axles should slide in and out easily. If it is bent and you can tell where you can heat up the long side of the bend with a torch till a 2" circle is cherry red then quench it with a wet rag that will shrink that spot and bring it straight. Be carefull as it moves quite a bit when you do this. Also if the welds are cracked where the tube goes into the pumpkin s**** it.

Well, I shortened the right lower control arm 7/16 in. I measured from the front of the rear end tubes to holes in the frame and it came out the same on both sides. The car handled great, but the tire was still rubbing the frame with a 2 off wheel and a 3/4 in spacer. I think I will be looking for another rear end now. Thanks everyone for the suggestions.

I've got two of those rear ends sitting next to my garage you can have for free. Cam out of a monte right?

We run the 9 inch housings so these are usesless to us.

I'm in kansas city if anyone wants em.

Just buy a new used rear end in the junk yard. They are no more than $100. Besides the safety issue, a bent 7.5 is an accident waiting to happen, christ they are fragile enough let alone useing a bent one. If you local I have 6 in my garage, I'd give you one to see it done right.
