this will probably stir up hornets nest, but I have ran both a properly set up hei will run right with an msd and is far less likely to fail. the last msd I will ever run is coming off the car tomorrow after costing yet another good finish.of course this is just my opinion but an hei has not let me down yet and I have 3 bad msd boxes on a shelf for paper wieghts.

I was talking to a late model guy recently who has been suffering from multiple MSD box failures. We've run the MSD HEI kit for years - the one with their in-housing module and in-cap coil. It works great and will work well past 7000 rpm. Use the low-resistance bushing between the coil and rotor and lock your advance mechanism.
