I copied this from a post at heartland motorsports forum
IMCA driver Brenton Slocum from Burlington, Iowa was killed Saturday night in a freak pit area accident. Brent was working on his car after hot laps. He had the car up on jack stands and was making adjustments to the rear of the car. A vintage style sprint car that had just gotten done hot lapping came into the pit area and the throttle stuck and as he swerved to miss one young man crossing his path, he struck the young man and then struck Brent. Brent was kneeling down making adjustments and never saw the car coming. The contact moved Brent's car into another competitors car and Brent was pinned between the sprint car and his own racecar.
The nights racing was cancelled and the accident is currently under investigation by the West Burlington Police Dept. & the Des Moines County Sheriff's office.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to all involved in this tradgedy. **********Racing is a very dangerous sport, even with every precaution taken. Incidents such as this only re-enforce my beliefs that no one other than drivers and crews should be allowed in the pits!*********************************
