I'm a little confused, I was told that the final out was right at 6.0 when i bought the car never really worried too much about it. changed gear oil and decided to check the gear ratio while i was at it and it has a 3.73 gear and a saginaw 3 speed so the 4 ratio's I came up with are 5.03,5.59,6.86 and 7.04 none of them near 6.0. To confuse matter's even more the 373 have 11 teeth on the pinion and 41 on the ring the notes I got with the car say 12 teeth on the pinion and 41 on the ring for 3.08 with the saginaw the highest final out would be 5.82. Is there a way to either check the transmission gear ratio or the total gear ratio without pulling the transmission out?

I never did the math in the book I got with the car there was one page that had 41 divid by 12 and done by hand and had 308 on the top. your right it does come out to 3.42. I'm just going by what was writen down maby he changed gears after that but right naw there's definately 3.73 gears in the car. I would pull the transmission out and find out for sure what I got but don't have the time for at least 2 weeks. I was just looking to see if there was a way to find final output without pulling the transmission.

the only way is to pull the tranny and see how many lines are on the input shaft. That ***** cause it is alot of work, Not time consuming, but bull work. We mark all of our trannys with a paint pen, With a 0, or 2 or 3 ( numbers meaning the number of lines )
good luck
