A buddy of mine got a cam that he can't return, and has to use it in his motor. The cams he got is set up for 1/2-5/8, while the local drivers all use a 1/4-3/8 cam. What can he do to gearing, advancing, etc to get it to work for a smaller track.

He runs 225-70-15 tires if that helps with the gearing issue.

You can advance it a few of degrees to get it to make more power at lower RPM's. The 3 keyway timing chains will allow you to advance it 4 degrees without any machine work and it's probably the cheapest way. I don't know how well it will work. A lot of engine builders will grind the numbers off the cams in order to keep their performance secrets. The right cam can make that big of a difference. Advancing it may make it "work" but it probably wont make it WIN.
