I assume I need to get my hands on a slide hammer to get the inner axle seals pulled out of the housing, but can anyone tell me what special attachment I need?

How do you guys pull these seals out?

Thanks...

Remove the axles and center section. Slide a long piece of pipe in from the other side and tap the seals out with a hammer from the opposite side...or use a slide hammer with a seal/race hook attachment.

If you use a claw hammer, yours are a bit different than mine. A hammer won't fit down in there.

I put a washer on the end of a slide hammer and "hook" the seal with that. A couple good bumps and it's "outta there!"

I have drilled the seal with a small drill bit then used a screw(larger than the hole about 2 inches long pointed) threaded in the hole and used sidecuts to pry with or vise grips and pry bar.

I must be a caveman! Pound a screwdriver inbetween the tube and the side of the seal(carefull not to tear up the tube) and give it a twist, usually comes out. Sometimes I have to use a long piece of pipe from the other side.

We use those red handled slightly hooked on the end huge screwdrivers you by from snap on or sears and just keep going around the seal with abrupt pops and get it out. The long bar or piece of rebar works good if you have both axles out too.

Changed My seals last week. I used the jaws off My wheel puller. Put one on My slide hammer, hooked it on the seal, and bumped the seal out.

I used a claw hammer too. one with the claw straight instead of really curved. worked great.

Just tap it with a straight screwdriver until it folds up. Then you can just pull it right out with your finger. Just be careful not to lose the rubber seal or round spring in it and put the axle and third member back in. I'm a caveman to!
