This may have already been posted but I am having problems finding a starter that works. I am running a 383 using Ace clutch pressure plate and 10.5 153 tooth lightweight
flywheel. Also running the balance plate. Anyways the problem. I have tried two starters a so called corvette starter and a tilton style starter. When I engage the starter the gear does not come out far enough to reach the flywheel. Has anybody ever had to deal with this or any ideas or type of starter to use. Thanks

I think (I will go count after NASCAR) the 153 tooth flywheel uses the 305 starter.

racemann is right..153 tooth fly wheel is for a 305 but you can make it work by getting a 305 high torque starter..it will be a stright bolt not the cross bolt.. tell the auto part place you wanr on for a 86 monty SS..it should work..
