Ok so we had to hunt down a miss recently and wanted to make sure the thing was working right. So out of the garage we went, up the street a few blocks and back down running thru the gears. Nothing like open exhaust in a residental area.

My joy of finding the miss was soon replaced by fear as the local police department took a lap around my neighborhood just shortly after.

This got me to thinking, what are some of the more interesting situations you all may have encountered on some of your "shake down" test drives thru the neighborhood?

Yards are empty when I take off down the block but on the way back. Everyone’s standing on there porch with there arms crossed. HaHa luckily there’s a lot of young kids on the block and they are all coming to my yard afterwards. So their parents seem to be ok since there kids are interested. Have not got the cops called on me yet. I don’t drive fast or anything but it still rattles the pictures on the wall.

Here's my story. I live out in the country not very many houses around. Well every saturday morning before I loaded her on the trailer I would take here down the road at full speed then bring her back. You know, just to check everything out. So I loaded her on the trailer and went back into the shop to finish getting the tools together. A few minutes later my dog starts barking. (he only barks when something new is around) So I peak me head out the shop door and sure enough there were TWO cop cars sitting in my driveway. So they both come wandering up and ask if i was the one taking the car up the road. Then they ask me for my drivers license. Then all the Blah blah about how I cant be doin that and how I should go to the race track to run the car. Then the $%^*ER's say that they have been getting calls from the neighbors (live .5 miles away) about a car reving its motor up after 10 p.m. They told me that I can't start the car after 10 any more. (Yeah right) Now instead of going down the road the .5 mile I just go about .25 miles and then turn around. No ticket though just a warning.

Get a load from this one. After a visit to the frame machine the body shop owner put a hole in the oil pan taking the car off of the frame machine. He delivered the car to us and told us what happened and we said no problem since he straightened the frame for free. We pulled the engine, took the pan off and I welded up the hole. Put the engine back in and I decided that we need to take a test run. I lived on a street with no neighbors for miles. The only problem is that I had been engaging in the spirits and I told my cousin he had to drive. Well he had never driven the car before. I climbed in on the passenger side and I said lets go. We went about 1/2 mile turned around and headed back to the house and that's the last thing I remember. I had turned my head around to get out of the wind then the engine quit. I think my cousin hit the brakes (no rf) and as luck would have it there were 2 cars coming in our direction. When the car swerved to the left we hit a boat being pulled by the first vehichle and ran head on into a camaro behind him. I woke up in the hospital, my cousin had a broken nose, 10 tickets and wound up with a bill for 12,000.00 for damages. Do yall think I have ever put one on the road since? NOT

I don't think anybody will beat a&m but I took my cousin and her husband down the gravel road and started swerving while the hammer was down to scare them and darn neared ditched it and scared me in the process. In town about as wild as I got was taking it up the block and spinning around headed back the other way and spun it around again leaving quite a few black marks along the way, oh yeah the cop lives about a block away.

Well we have ten acres hear at the shop and well we use to be out of town but now we are in the city limits. My road to the shop is like 1/4 mile long so we test are car all the time. We have had the cops come a cpl of times but mainly for the dust we were putting on the neighbors. Well that neighbor a week later got busted for having a meth lab and we have never had a problem sense. We also drive it like a mile away to the tire shop that sponsors us and all we did was call the police chief and ask him if it was ok to do so. He said as long as we stayed on side of road and didnt get on it Well you know we never did that right lol

Well my stories probably arent as good since I just started this year. But anywho I will let yas in on them haha. Before the first race of the season came up earlier this year we had to test and make sure we had everything on the car running good so we decided heck why not take it on the street and try it. So after I got into the car and all my dad told me no need to crack it open. Me being 17 didnt really pay attention to it and had it wound up just about all the way goin up and down the main road and the side streets. We live in a small town bout tons of people in the 60 or older who hate sound or anything like that. They didnt call the cops on us the just called my mom . Needless to say I really didnt have an answer for here. So I feel thats just as bad as the cops coming. Haha

i can remember a few years back i was building a comp 4 car and my bro was bugging and bugging to let him drive it i had the roof off and the cage just sitting in it not welded down or anything so stupid me said ok but we will just put a strap around the cage to hold it in. at the time i had a big 40 acre field and in the middle of it was a brush pile well my bro had never drove before but i figured he could not hit anything so what the hey. i climbed in the passenger side and away we went well by the time we were done we were so buried in the brush pile on our side it was not funny i d@mn near fell out of the car and it took me 3 hours to get it unburried. needless to say he has never drove another car of mine. oh and i had to replace my brand new rad cause it was full of sticks and holes. not impressed!!

He must be embaraced to tell it...

i live in the middle of no where on a dead end road, 1/2 mile long we live at the halfway point, so quite often we'll take the car down to the end turn around and come back the neighbors are ok with it. a few years back though on a sun morn around 9-10 am i was running a 4cyl camaro at the time i unloaded the car off the trailer fig i'd take it out for a quick run and come back, i went down to the end turned around on my way back i fig i show off a little bit and blow by the house. there is a little bend before the house and just before i got to it i backed out the gas down shifted and hammered the gas hard came outta the corner completely sideways looped it around in a 180 just barely missed the ditch and a large willow tree on the other side and made a **** of a tire screech when those 8 inch hoosiers started spinning.woke up most the neighbors. scared myself a little bit on that

I had a 76 monte, had her all stripped out, wanted badly to test drive er',so I found an ole 5gal. bucket to sit on,we have 2 90 degree turns on our limerock road, the first one turns right, the second one turns left,if you hit them just right you can make both of them wide open an never lift, well I made the right hander pretty well, pedal to the medal, tires spinning, had er' hung out,dad would have been proud, about mid turn going back left the plastic bucket broke in half! I fell to the floor board, foot still on gas, launched car up enbankment and parallel parked it between two pine trees,I had to walk {limp} back to the house to get wife and chainsaw to cut one of the trees to back car out, wife was very proud!

There was an asphault charity series here where law enforcement drove the cars. We built a car and we were doing pretty good with it so the county sherrif called and asked if we could look his car over and see what we thought ( This was the main man not a sherrif but The Sherrif). He brought it over and we worked on it for about a week and he came on Friday to pick it up. Just before he got there I jumped into it and took it for a run around the neighborhood to check it out. Well I just got it back to the shop ( about a 1 mile round trip, these cars had working lightbars and sirene and I had them on) when the Sherrif got there. After talking with us he asked if we had run it yet. We had a small track on the property that was paved (we built a car for someone who owned a paving co so he built us a big go cart track just big enough for 1 car). We told him yes and he could try it if he wanted, well he thought it would be cute if he took ito out on the road as we lived in a rural area, about 10 minutes later we were starting to get worried when he pulled back in with an escort. Someone had called the sherrif on us for our trip and they were about 1/4 mile away when the car came back by. I wish I could have been there when they pulled the car over and found out who was driving it.

One of my racing buds lives a little further out in the county than me and were used to "test" driving their race cars on their narrow county road. It wasn't a big deal to them at all, as they were now helping the second son with his stocker.
They watched as farm lands here in TN were sold and developed into residential communities and got to know their new neighbor (a NY to FL and on to TN transplant) as he had his 3500 sq ft home erected near the front corner of their property.
Spring drew near and Mike fires up the mini stock and takes it for a spin up the road and back. Car's sitting there idleing when the county sherriff pulls up and, much to my friends surprise, SOMEONE had complained!!!!!
This had never happened before and believe me, the mini kicked out about half the decibles the Sportsamn did. Mike Sr went ballistic at first, then after he calmed down went to the local sign shop and had a neat sign made which he stood in the front corner of his property...close to the proposed sight of the new nieghbors pool.

I have 4.3 acres, so We now have a "Test Track" cut into the yard around the house. After one day of testing, The Wife came out shortly after dark complaining that the house phone no longer worked.Turns out I had cut the underground phone line, coming out of the #4 turn. Then it begain to rain, so Lets just say "It was a shocking experiance"!!!
