I have got a couple of questions--first I will tell my problem, I bought a new Moroso Durafire dist. and have been running it in my new motor--well I pulled it out in the tech area and the gear is starting to show a little bit of wear already (more then it should after 3 nights) its not wearing at the top or bottom its wearing along the whole cog so what im thinking is since my block was decked Im going to have to shim my dist between my intake and dist. right? but what I need to know is how much (I bought one of thoses shim kits from JR motorsports to shim it up but Im just not sure how much to go) also I ordered a bronze gear, but I have always heard that bronze gears wont last on a solid cam, am I messing up by putting the bronze gear on or should I just get another cast steel gear (JR Motorsports told me that they put bronze gears on all of their motors) what do U guys run?

I have the same problem and always run the bronze gear. I found out the hard way a bronze distributor gear is alot easier and cheaper to replace than the cam. As for shims I am not sure and would like to know the same answer. I read in one of the forums someone said to set the distributor in without the gasket and check to make sure it is sitting on the intake. But like I said, this is just hear-say. good luck.

Get some white litheium grease and put it on the distribitor get. Drop the distribitor in the motor, turn the motor over a few times and pull the distribitor out and see if you can tell where the distribitor gear is riding on the cam gear. Then, just shim it up until the contact patch is in the middle of the distribitor gear. Your probably gonna have to shim it up 3/4 of what ever the height you decked the block.

drop the dist. in with no gaskets, make sure its seated, look at the gap between the dist. and intake adjust with shims
