I looked in a racing book once a while back and I saw a chart that that had Rpms Rear gear ratio and track size for a starting point for your rear end gears. I cant remember where I saw it. If anyone knows of somthing similar I would like to take another look at it.

this is the info I got from searches on this forum.
1/4 6.50-6.56
3/8 6.33
4/10 6.20
1/2 6.00
hope this helps, you also need to take into consideration of tire size. Eddie

I know the gears my car likes for the track I run at I remember seeing some kind of chart in a book I cant remember where I seen I was just curious and wanted to take a look at it for grins. Im not exactly good with math and formulas I leave that to my crew chief but someone was telling me to find your final gear ratio you take your transmission gear and add it to your rear end gear. Is this correct?

you multiply the tranny and rear gear . you can't go by a chart because there are to many variable like the mods at my track run a 5.0 and the hobby stocks run a 6.0 there is to much to consider when figuring the ratio you need you can't get that from a chart. tire roll, weight of the car ,hp, type of motor all play a part in it i wouldn't gear my car the same for a 350 as a 400 on the same track the motors have different needs so you need to figure that in when considering a gear. rednecks is a good guild there for a imca hobby but imca stock car would not be the same
